Wimbledon Embraces Video Review System This Season.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors will gain the ability to question specific decisions from the chair umpire, following the system already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move arrives only a year after the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."

The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
